Cotton, silk, merino, band shirts and an AFL club

Research checked 6 November 2026. Return to the sourcing guide · Sourcing sheet

Two qualifying additions: R.M.Williams cotton shirts and Sportscraft silk shirts/tops. Three band queries and one club query stopped at the initial volume check; the merino group received a complete title screen.

Collection and interpretation

Australian item location. The final cotton and silk searches used pre-owned condition code 3000. Sold searches used eBay’s sold filter; the matching active searches omitted sold/completed filters. We collected every available page of the final searches: Sportscraft one sold and three active; R.M.Williams three sold and six active. eBay’s spelling correction for Sportscraft was disabled using its visible “search instead” option before the final paired collection. Early partial or corrected captures were superseded. The R.M.Williams first sold page was rechecked using the same parameters as the remaining pages.

Counts use distinct eBay item numbers, pre-owned result cards and sold-card dates from 9 August to 6 November 2026 inclusive. Duplicate cards were removed. Titles must explicitly name the brand, fibre and garment; fibre blends count. The ratio is 90-day sold listings divided by one day of active stock. It does not establish sale probability, units, days to sell or a fabric-caused advantage. A relisted garment can have a different item number. Every transaction was not individually inspected; dated sold badges support the count, and the separate price samples use inspected item pages.

Title screening

Sportscraft requires the exact brand spelling, silk and shirt, blouse or top. Dresses, skirts, pants, shorts, jackets, blazers and coats are excluded. A shirt bundled with matching beads was removed. R.M.Williams allows RM, R M and dotted spellings, requires cotton and shirt, and excludes identifiable T-shirts, tees, polos, rugby shirts, dresses, skirts, pants, shorts, jackets, blazers, coats and nightshirts. Both groups exclude identifiable new/NWT/BNWT/NWOT stock, sets, bundles, bonus garments, multiple items including “x 2” or “2 x”, and children’s/youth stock. Pre-owned titles saying like/as/near/near to/very near/close to brand new remain eligible. Single-item listings promoting combined-postage discounts remain eligible. Brand, fabric or garment omitted from a title can cause an otherwise relevant garment to be missed.

Price checks

Eight selected item-page checks per qualifying group span August–November across cuts and sizes. Candidate cards with offer, coupon or “read” wording were excluded, as were repeated titles. These are small convenience samples, not random samples, market-wide medians or estimates of the exact garment in hand. Each page explicitly confirmed a sale; none of the final 16 pages was seller-ended. Displayed amounts less separately itemised buyer protection fees give the comparison prices. Where a page only said buyer protection was included without stating a dollar fee, its displayed amount was retained. Postage and seller costs are excluded. Item-page and sold-card dates can differ; the count consistently uses card dates. Seller proceeds are not established by these amounts.

Charity-shop examples establish that these garments passed through Australian charity stock. They do not measure availability by suburb, authenticate a garment, establish a sale price or imply it is worth any op-shop ticket.
