Sports op-shop research without a minimum sales cutoff

Checked 6 November 2026. Return to the sports guide · Sourcing sheet

Method and scope

Four selected sports queries, not a random sample of all sports stock or an estimate of local op-shop availability. No 100-sale eligibility minimum. Item location Australia (LH_PrefLoc=1), used/pre-owned condition code 3000, all eBay categories. Sold filter on the sold side; sold/completed filters omitted on the active side. All available primary result pages were collected: Wallabies two sold/three active; each other group one sold/one active. The initial clothing-category-only Collingwood active check was superseded by the matching all-category pair because many active guernseys are classified under Sporting Goods.

Only primary exact-result cards before the first “Results matching fewer words” or international-seller rewrite boundary were retained. Broader and international suggestions were excluded even if a title looked relevant. Distinct item numbers per side. Sold-card dates 9 August–6 November 2026 inclusive. Every retained card had a standalone Used or Pre-owned condition label. Duplicate sponsored cards were removed. Ratios compare 90 days of listings with one day of stock, not time to sell, units, unique garments or sale probability. Every counted transaction was not individually verified; counts rely on dated sold badges and conservative title screening.

Screening rules

All groups exclude identifiable new/NWT/BNWT/NWOT, bundles, multiples, accessory-only false matches and children’s/junior stock. Like/as/near-new used descriptions and a new putter grip are allowed. Unknown age or edition can remain in incomplete titles. The records do not independently authenticate provenance, era or every branded item.

Collingwood requires the club name and guernsey, jersey or jumper; Wallabies requires Wallabies and the same garment words. Both exclude signatures/autographs, framed items, explicit player-worn/issued or match-worn/issued claims, training pieces, hoodies, jackets, polos, shorts, headwear, miniatures and trading cards. Explicit local/other-team keyword matches such as SFL, FNL, Cowra, Berowra, Easts, Norths, Warringah, Randwick, Gordon, Wests, Waratahs, NRL and rugby league are removed. Wallabies Tooheys New sponsor wording is not treated as new condition. Vintage/retro retail shirts remain included; retail Player Gear/Player Fit wording alone is not evidence of athlete use.

Ping requires Ping, Anser and putter in the title. Cover-only, grip-only, replacement and incomplete head/shaft-only matches are removed. A complete putter with a cover remains eligible. Different numbered Anser and named ranges remain in the family count. Babolat requires Babolat and Pure Drive; identified junior/25- or 26-inch frames, strings, bumpers, grommets and accessory-only matches are removed. Different adult versions remain included.

Price sampling and conventions

For Collingwood, Wallabies and Ping, six eligible cards were selected at spaced positions across the dated sold-card sequence; for Babolat, both eligible candidates were used. Cards containing offer, coupon or read wording and repeated titles were omitted from price eligibility. All 20 final inspected pages explicitly confirmed sales. This is a selected convenience sample across designs and models, not a market-wide typical-price estimate. Item-page dates can differ from card dates; counts consistently use the card date.

Comparison price equals the displayed amount less any separately itemised buyer protection fee. If no dollar fee was itemised, the displayed amount was retained and may still include an unquantified buyer fee. Postage and seller costs are excluded. These amounts do not establish seller net proceeds. Collingwood’s four other designs are shown separately from two named commemorative designs. The Wallabies sample’s four seller-described older designs and two other KooGa examples are kept separate; no pooled median is used. Ping’s six-model median is explicitly a mixed-model sample. Babolat’s two distinct versions are individual examples with no family median.

Identification and charity-stock references

• Salvos used Canterbury 2007 replica
• Salvos KooGa long-sleeve jersey
• Salvos used Collingwood 2010 premiership guernsey
• Babolat current Pure Drive family, as an identification aid

Charity records show that these jersey types have passed through Australian charity shops; they do not quantify availability or supply sold prices. This research does not establish how commonly specific equipment models appear in op shops. Current manufacturer retail prices were not used as second-hand valuations.
