From 3 November 2026, eBay balance is part of the Australian Free Selling experience. If this applies to your account, check which funds are available and request a payout when you want to withdraw them. A sale notification, an available balance and money arriving at your bank are different stages.

Use the steps below to check a sale’s payment status, request available funds and investigate a hold. Payment information was checked against eBay’s official Australian pages on 3 November 2026.

Who does the change apply to?

eBay’s balance information says eligible Australian Free Selling participants are required to have an eBay balance account from 3 November. You do not have to use the balance to buy things. Available funds can be withdrawn, subject to the applicable terms and restrictions. If you later move to Pro, eBay says existing access to the balance remains.

Check your actual account rather than assuming every seller has the same setup. The Free Selling eligibility page explains the sales threshold and account requirements; Pro accounts have different fees and payout options.

Check the status before looking for a missing payment

Open Payments in Seller Hub or My eBay. Start with the transaction and payout records rather than the amount shown in a sale email.

What you seeWhat to check next
A confirmed orderThe buyer’s payment and order status inside eBay
Processing fundsThe transaction record and the expected availability information
Funds on holdThe reason shown and any requested account or order action
Available fundsThe amount currently eligible for a payout request
A payout recordIts status, destination and reference details

The Payments tab guide explains the records available. Keep an order number and payout reference together when investigating a particular sale. A bank statement alone may not identify which order contributed to a combined transfer.

How to request a payout

eBay’s getting-paid guide says non-Pro payouts are on demand. In the Payments tab, choose Request payout, select the amount of available funds and follow the account’s confirmation steps. Processing or held funds cannot be included.

Before confirming, read the amount and linked destination shown. Afterwards, keep the payout reference and check its status. eBay describes bank availability as typically one to two business days after a payout is sent; that is not a guarantee that every sale reaches your bank within that period.

Use the live instructions if an app layout or button label differs. Start from your signed-in eBay account rather than a link in an unexpected message asking for banking details.

If money is on hold

A hold needs its own check. Open the transaction-holds guidance and the reason shown for your sale. Check requested verification, order information and tracking where relevant. Do not create a second sale or send an extra parcel to try to release a payment.

Keep two investigations separate:

  • The sale: is it paid, dispatched, delivered, refunded or disputed?
  • The payout: are funds available, has a request been made, and what does that transfer show?

If support is needed, provide the relevant order and payout references through eBay’s own help flow. Listalong cannot change eBay’s payment decisions.

An illustrative cash-check worksheet

Suppose your own records show A$180 in available funds and A$40 still processing. Treat those as separate amounts: the second figure is not part of the first. This is a made-up example for organising records, not a forecast of fees or payout timing.

Record the date checked, available amount, requested amount and payout reference. When the bank entry appears, match it back to that request. If it does not match, investigate the transaction details before changing inventory or refunding the buyer again.

For stock listed on two marketplaces, keep the inventory check separate from payment reconciliation. The item may have sold correctly while the transfer still needs attention.

Keep postage and proceeds connected

Free postage is still a cost to someone. eBay’s shipping terms explain how shipping amounts and adjustments can be collected. Review the actual transaction breakdown instead of treating the listing price as the cash you will receive.

The Australian eBay postage guide separates the existing label-purchase flow from the prepaid-label rollout beginning 11 November. Use it to check the order’s sending method, then return to Payments for the financial record.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to spend my eBay balance on eBay?

No. eBay says you can request withdrawal of available funds to your linked financial account. Holds and restrictions can affect availability.

Does requesting a payout release funds on hold?

No. Check the hold details and any action eBay requests. A payout request does not turn held or processing funds into available funds.

Can Listalong release an eBay payment?

No. Check payments and payout issues directly in eBay; Listalong does not control eBay balances or bank transfers.
